tumbling and tatting

I have just made my first patchwork block using papers which I am quite pleased with, I only used some poly cotton I had at hand to try this method, the block now needs mounting on a square piece of fabric. I think I might prefer this way by hand rather than machine patching, it is easier to get the corners meeting and think it is more relaxing stitching by hand if some what slower  well I expect it is but have not tried it on the machine yet. On friday I got a quarter inch foot for the machine so will have a go shortly.

Now for my latest piece of needle tatting, I found this necklace pattern on the internet, it went together very well but the chain part is not long enough for me to wear it, not sure I would if I could anyway
I have now quite a selection of tatted pieces which I hope to use on some crazy blocks in the near future.

When I went out today I saw something odd on the garden by the path, touching it gingerly with my foot I decided it was a fungus of some sort, not sure what has made the holes in it but thought I would share this thing with you all, maybe it was something to do with halloween, I did not open my door to some knockers as they frighten me, no eggs or flour thrown at my windows which is quite common, maybe the fungus was deposited instead although it appears to be rooted in the soil, will keep my eye on it and see what happens.

That pattern is the same I used for a leaf. I found it in a book. Look here: http://threads-and-patches.blogspot.com/2012/05/story-of-tatted-leaf.html

Your block looks good!
Nice tatting, Margaret. If it's too short for a necklace, can you use it as a bracelet, or a real nice bookmark?

Baby blocks look great all the corners match, well done. It is quite tricky to do on the machine, try a simple 9 patch first. Love the tatting. I think you will find that the slugs have been eating your bit of fungus.

Piecing over paper is relaxing and stressfree as it is easy to get perfect joints. Your block is so sharp in contrast and has this lovely Baby Block look. It could become a crazy quilt, if you place some tatting pieces on top and cover some seams with embroidery.
How horrible to have charming childlike Halloween turn into a REAL scary event with threats of things being thrown at one's windows. The fungus in the garden can have been eaten by bugs. Let's hope there is nothing sinister in it!
Keep warm and enjoy playing with your new foot for the sewing machine.

Your patchwork looks great, how sad that the kids behave like that! :)

Your tumbling blocks look like one of my first handpieced quilts. I had a quick search on my blog, but never wrote about it. I'm going to share it later today.
Your tatting is so pretty, I think it would look nice on CQ too if you don't wear it.

Two of my favorite things: tumbling block, I love the optical illusion in the design, and stitching by hand. I love hand sewing and stitching, even hand spindle spinning! and your results are lovely.

Your quilt piece has such a neat look and effect and your needle tatted necklace looks great! I've ordered some tatting needles as I can't find anyplace in this city of over 200,000 that carries any. Looks like bugs have riddled that mushroom full of holes. Hope bonfire night is a good night.

Love that patchwork template, a favourite of mine for a long time. Your tatting looks really nice, something I've on dabbled in. Interesting little piece of fungi, and perhaps the ants find it tasty {??}. Sorry, I'm slow again, thinking of you. Cheers.

Love the necklace Margaret . What a wonderful technique to use for creating jewelry . Loved the patchwork squares too. The colors and the neatness in stitch really make them stand out!

Hi Margaret - Love your tatting! That is one thing I have yet to learn. I can see from your pretty stitching and tatting that you would be great at Crazy Quilting -so jump it!

Wow, this fungus is extraordinary. We had children knocking at our door in France - luckily I had something to put into their basket.
Your tatting is very nice. I have also quite an array of samples which I will put somelwhere some time.
