2 completed quilts

Today I can share 2 quilts that I am over the moon with, I have successfully quilted thanks to an amazing book      Machine Quilting with style by Christa Watson,    what a wonderful book   I had really thought I would never be able to do a large quilt on my domestic machine but success!
I started by quilting the 6 mini quilts I had made,  will add photos of these in a few days then moved on to the row quilt I did as a BOM with Little Bunny blog last year.  This I quilted with the walking foot and as it was in rows was not too bad to manipulate,  I used different patterns for each row,  maybe I should have done more quilting but quite pleased with how it is,  for now it will be on the spare bed along with others waiting to be quilted.

This is my scrap vortex quilt also made last year,  I just love scrappy,   this I quilted free motion with a sort of squiggle,  the stitches are not all the same size but I definitely improved as I went on with it,
My granddaughter Sal is 18 on Sunday and she is off to uni in September,  this might brighten up the halls of residence but will be more than happy to bring it home if she turns her nose up at it!  I will make a label and take it with me, if Sal decides she would like it I will sew it on

I think I mentioned in a previous blog that I now have my machine in my horn cabinet,  I am sure this has helped with the quilting as the machine is flat to the surface making it a bit easier to do.

My next quilting project is a baby quilt for a colleague of Helen`s,  not sure how I will quilt this will try and photo it better when quilted.

Once this is done I am on hold as I have used all the wadding,  I had a roll of recycled but wold like to get some warm and natural,  having priced it on line think I will have to do some saving first! I wonder what anyone else uses and what you recommend,  I have a small piece of the warm and bright which is polyester that I will use for a playmat,  it feels nice to touch but do not think there is much difference in price,  maybe it is good for baby quilts as it will be easy to wash and will dry quicker.

Great work, Margaret. I think machine quilting is very intimidating before one actually has a try. Once over that hurdle it is fast and enjoyable, and as you noticed one gets better and better! Maybe from now on you will never quiltby hand again!
I am sure Sal will want such a bright quilt for ther uni lodgings.

Your sparebed quilt ist beautiful! And I love specially the scrap quilt - you did a very, very good job with quilting. The scrap quilt is just as I do it - in many colours - it is resemblng my quilts, thats just funny. Again you have been very busy.

You have a very good reason to be over the moon with these two new completed pieces………your fabric choices & placement of color made them very special!

You are really excelling yourself! What a burst of quilting energy. Your mention of a Hall of residence was such a note of nostalgia for me, back to uni in the late fifties!! Wouldn't live in one but the term is familiar. I insisted on digs, such an outlier!

You have been busy while I wasn't looking!
Well done and congratulations on your new quilts :-)
I should imagine that your granddaughter will be pleased to have something from home ( however much they think that they can't wait to leave home).
I can well believe that you are pleased with your Horn cabinet; I can't imagine life without mine :-)

Well done, Margaret. These are fantastic. I really, really like the squiggle with a twist free motion quilting. What's not to like?

I like both finished quilts a lot. The first one has more emphasis on the blocks, and thats why it doesn´t need that much quilting, what you did is fine. The meanders on the second one are very pretty, I like it when the piecing is sraight lines and the quilting is squigly, that is a nice contrast!
Well done!

Congrats on 2 beautiful finishes! I am looking forward to the day that I can have my machine dropped into a table to make it flush. I'm sure that makes it a bit easier to quilt.

Margaret, your quilts are lovely and I'm so glad the machine is now set up with a flat surface. Mine is in a longish custom table and that is so helpful with the extra area on the left. Your row quilt is charming and the quilting looks fine. I love the colorful one and hope your granddaughter likes it. The batting (wadding) I use is Warm and White, same maker as Warm and Natural, but good if you have white areas. Also, the best thing is the quilting lines can be up to 10 inches apart. So I don't,have to quilt closely. Some are only 2-4 inches for spacing. It is also lightweight, all cotton but glazed so it stays together. Hope that is helpful to you. I am able to buy it by the yard off a 90-inch wide roll locally and it is always on sale like 40% off with a weekly coupon. Good luck to you.
