Doll quilt

I joined up with a group of ladies making a doll quilt this month having seen a quilt one of them had done. This is the link about the quilt challenge   at least I hope I have shared the correct link,  links confuse me. http://cattinkakw.blogspot.com/2016/01/puppenquilt-mitnah-aktion-doll-quilt.html.
We had a month to make the quilt and they are all being shared on cattinka`s blog today and we are sharing our own on our blogs today too.  I do not have a doll but do have an ancient bear which like me will be 70 next year and when I was 50 Mum bought me another bear.  However I am not using this as a quilt for the bears but as a mat for Pearl my featherweight machine she seems so at home on it!  The quilt measures 12.5" x 15.5" .  Due to my lack of piecing skills for small blocks I decided to do a scrap quilt, I save all scraps over 1" and had great fun joining lots of them together and making 30 blocks out of them  I am so pleased with how it worked.I have machine quilted it with a random sort of swirl,  this is the really tricky part for me but quite pleased with it though the stitches do vary a bit in size

my 50th birthday bear  he is called Fortesque his name was attached to him

my elderly bear  poor thing is very bald on his body and even has a few holes in him. Have given him wool eyes as he has lost the original ones and have had to replace his paw pads many years ago.

Your old bear reminds me of the children's book, "The Velveteen Rabbit." He was loved so much that he got all worn out. Doll quilt turned out great. Something from nothing almost. Good job on the quilting.

That is just beautiful, and the machine is awsome as well.
I have a drawer full of scraps that I just can't throw away, this would make good use of them, but when I'll get the time who knows. lol
I'm 70 in a couple of weeks time so snap.

Margaret you really are spoiling us with treasures today. The little quilt is number one, the bears number 2 and three and you Featherweight is the next one. It looks good on the little quilt. This SAL was lots of fun and I am glad you were part of it!

Your quilt is a delight. No wonder the old bears like it so much. I still have my first doll, with stuffing falling out, but I could never part with her. So nice that you have them.

little quilts are great for using up our small scraps and a great size to practice our quilting. They're so much easier to manipulate. It's the perfect resting place

Dear Margaret,
that's a wonderful little quilt, looking fresh and bright.
I think, your old Teddy has well-deserved it :-)

Dein kleiner Puppenquilt ist sehr schön geworden. Richtig bunt mit leuchtenden Stoffen. Dein Bär freut sich, das er darin schlafen darf.
Herzlichen Dank auch für Deinen lieben Kommentar.

Really loving your Featherweight! And that delightful little quilt too : )
I enjoy making up scrappy blocks myself, am not that good at patchwork so sort of learning as I go along, but enjoying the path never the less!
I think your quilt is a perfect base for Pearly but maybe the bears might like small sized pouch like, sleeping bags rather than a quilt each? lol

Adorable doll quilt! Even for a sewing machine or a bear. I'm impressed you have the bear still at all! Mine is long gone, but I remember him well. He was black and white and had only one eye. =) What a great project that is. Now if you have any little children around, they'll want one, too.

That is great and well done on the meander quilting. Pearl looks very comfy on her own special "cushion" now.

Great use of your scraps!!! And how lovely that you get to keep your quilt - so often these doll quilts are a swap: you work really hard on creating something gorgeous and then give it away!!!

Oh, what a cute wee quilt! Fortesque looks rather comfy snuggled beneath. Hugs

Liebe Margret,

What a fun doll/bear/machine quilt Margaret! It sounds like you had a good time making it too! Your bears certainly have a lot of history don't they - what wonderful fellows to have! I love all your blocks from your previous post, I'm collecting the SS patterns - and the Pat Sloan ones - but haven't had a chance to start them yet!

My sewing skills are so poor that I don't even think I could make a small doll quilt. Yours looks so bright and colourful and nicely done!
