crazy quilt and tula

Once again it is time for 6 more Tula blocks.Only 19 to go after these and then it is all done!!

block 76

block 77,  love the colours and batiks used in this one

block 78,  the purple/yellow fabric is a bit I created with sponging silk paint onto the fabric, this is the nearest I get to dyeing fabric.

block 80

block 81   think this one is nice and fresh looking.

block 79,  this did not upload first time round and did not know how to put it where it should be!

I have now joined the CQJP blocks together.

maybe I am being overcritical but there are one or two bits I do not like.  The large yellow butterfly on the may block, is it too much in my face? and the block below may is the  july one both the centre flowers and the embellished orange flower seem to shout at me. The central flower I see I have not used any of that colour elsewhere,    what do you all feel?

Now I have to stitch over all the seams,   not sure how I go about this, do I do the same stitch all the way down from top to bottom in the same colour and use a similar stitch across the rows or maybe each block has its own stitch,  have it pinned up on the wall for the time being waiting for some inspiration.  Not thinking of adding a border just some narrow binding maybe in a tan colour.
My younger daughter Helen has asked me to do one with lots of pinks and grey for her lounge for next year so I have something to think about.

Hello Margaret, the newly sewn blocks are again so interesting and lovely. I also love the green-blue batik one. If you don't like the yellow butterfly you could take it off - you are very critical with yourself indeed. Just wait and get used to the sight.

...can take it off maybe -but give yourself some time.
Have a look at Sharons crazy seams - I think she does not use always the same stitches. I would do a variety. :=)

The computer doesn't want me to see the Tula pix today, but I can see the Crazy. My first thought was "Oh, she must just love it." Then I kept reading:) Maybe if you use the yellow butterfly color and the pink flower color in your seams you have left, those two things might not yell at you - it's hard to say from a pix. It will tell you what it wants.

Wow, Margaret! They are ALL so beautiful! I especially like the black and red block with the strawberry fabric. And your crazy quilt is really stunning. Love the colors. I think sometimes we look at something for so long that we can't really see the whole thing anymore - usually we just see the things we don't like! Perhaps it would be helpful to put it away for a while and come back to it later with fresh eyes. that always helps me.

Your finished crazy quilt looks excellent, Margaret! I would not change anything. There are no rules, so you can do what you like with the last seams. Personally, I would try out different stitches on each seam. Congratulations!

And, your Tula blocks are looking good too!

You have done another set of pretty blocks, one with the butterfly caught my eye first, I like that one.
The joined crazy blocks looks lovely, I am sure you will come up with an idea for the border too.

Love your new Tula blocks! And I also like your CQ. Of course you don't have to stitch the seams. As you can see at Sharon's I droppped the button box quilt, she didn't stitch them. I like that and did the same with my CQ Crazy Monday (http://fat-quarter.blogspot.nl/2011/10/crazy-monday.html). Hope this helps!

Du hast ganz wunderbare Blöcke genäht. Dein crazy-Quilt gefällt mir sehr gut. Gelb ist meine Lieblingsfarbe, daher finde ich den Schmetterling ganz prima. Sei nicht so kritisch mit Dir.

How wonderful to have created sew many different blocks and have a sample of each. Your CQ blocks are amazing and each one beautiful. They will tell you what they want when the time is right. Your inner critic needs to go on vacation and leave you alone. I'm just saying...

Tula block 77 is my favourite and I think the crazy quilt is terrific as it is - really unified.

Beautiful blocks and colour combo's . Such a lot of work though .
Re ,.the Christmas cacti . I also had a big one but 2 years ago I left it too wet after a shower of rain and it rotted before it could dry out . I usually put my plants outside in the summer .

Another set of unusual blocks!
The cq is great, I feel so happy you stuck to the idea and worked them all. Keep it on the wall for some time and see if you get used to the ornaments that are standing out now. Personally I would not change anything. IF I were to cover the seams I would do that with black thread and Herrinbone stitch.

You are very busy.Margaret! Tha Tula blocks look great and I really love your crazy quilt. In my opinion it is not necessary to stitch the seams. The quilt is wondrrful as it is! :-)

Wonderful Margaret!! and you already have the colors down for 2014 CQJP! still need to finish cq2013 !! the tula blocks are all so interesting - they will be so lively and lovely when they are together! your CQ blocks are beautiful together as you have them sewn - it looks like the light is shining in the darkness, as the light grows from the left lower edge, up through the middle as the darker begins and then "fades" (hope that makes sense) {if I click 'notify me} is that a link back?

I love the purple and yellow block, but they are all great. I think as some of the others have said, that you are overthinking the crazy quilt. The yellow butterfly does not seem to pop to me, but as others have said, now you have an opportunity to add a bit more of any colours that seem isolated by using them in your seams. I think it would be best to use different seam treatments on each seam. If you used the same, it would make it regimented, which is the opposite of crazy. beautiful work, margaret

I would leave it, it's surprising how over time, it all begins to gel. It'll all look different again once you've done the seam treatments. It's a lovely way to look back over the year

Wow, only 19 more to go! You are almost there. As for the CQ, don't take anything off, don't add anything. The orange look balanced through the quilt, the yellow butterfly is so light and the flowers that are the only ones that color are in the middle. As for the seams, you can do different stitches on them, or the same. They can be embellished or not, it's all up to you. On antique ones, I've seen lots of different ways they have been done, so suit yourself. =)

HI! Margaret, Love your Tula blocks and your crazy quilt top is amazing I love how you have embellished them and placed them together.

your blocks are coming along lovely. For the CQ, I think you should stitch all the seams, you could use some of the colours - like the yellow - that you've only used once to tie it all together. Have you had a look on pinterest to see how others do the seams?
